Our work world is changing rapidly, exponentially.

You can feel it: the urgency, stress, overwhelm.

It’s a challenge to survive it, much less succeed, and it’s become painfully obvious that the demand for powerful, effective leadership is rising just when the old ways of leading are failing.

We need leaders who not only embody civility, kindness and positivity, but also hold others accountable and achieve outstanding results. We need leaders to develop other leaders so large-scale change can happen quickly.

In short, today’s work world is asking leaders to become culture change experts while being strategic and meeting deadlines in an increasingly complex and political environment.

Sound impossible?

It’s not. We’re doing it every day. We meet and beat these challenges with tools, systems and frameworks that live in a domain called “coaching.”

Not the all-too-common corporate “Oh, we- do-coaching” coaching, or "We-tried-that" coaching. Real coaching. Professional coaching that leads to strategic focus, clarity, and commitments that can be managed.

Heads-up: Becoming a coach isn’t about filling your head with things you didn’t know before… it’s about becoming the person you’ve always known you could be. It’s not just learning new skills, but developing new ways of seeing the world.

My name is Birgit Zacher Hanson. My team and I train and coach leaders to produce breakthrough results in today’s complex work environment without working harder, working more hours, or being “tougher” on their teams.

If you're ready to transform yourself into a powerful change agent able to lead the creation of a culture of excellence and accountability -- and experience a major upgrade in your own personal satisfaction -- the Commitment Coaching Certification for Change Leaders could be for you.

Program Vision and Goals

The vision for this program is nothing short of your transformation as a leader. You'll not only have powerful new skills, your entire work environment will occur to you differently. Instead of being shackled by a traditional leadership paradigm that relies on control and force, you'll find yourself naturally leading powerfully and producing your desired results with less effort and stress.

Instead of "doing" leadership, you'll be a leader.

Your day won't consist of everyone putting problems on your plate, you'll have the skills and frameworks to tap into your team's brilliance and develop others to innovate, lead change and generate solutions.

Leaders suffer when they're stuck using old school, traditional leadership behaviors in the modern, complex work environment. The resulting stress, anxiety, pressure and failure triggers leaders into deploying survival strategies that only make matters worse.

Old School, stressed-out leaders tend to fall into traditional leadership traps, such as:

  • Trying to solve other peoples’ problems and telling them what to do;
  • Focusing on firefighting, tasks and results;
  • Disregarding actual capacity limitations;
  • Believing that there is only one right way and that others should hurry up to figure it out;
  • Needing to control or assert power over others to get compliance;
  • Falling into a critical and reactive demeanor when they don’t get what they want.

As a result, they default into survival strategies such as:

  • Working harder and longer hours, giving up life balance and healthy habits;
  • Keeping a low profile, not taking risks or challenging rank;
  • Spending time providing information that justifies that the ‘right’ thing was done;
  • Downplaying or ignoring issues;
  • Seeking individual achievements and recognition;
  • Shutting down feelings to avoid pain and despair;
  • Blaming and disciplining others...
  • ... and SUFFERING!

The 4 C's

Becoming a transformational coach/leader who produces breakthrough results without working harder, longer, or being “tougher” on your team requires that you develop the ability to make mindset and action shifts in three domains: Composure, Coaching, and Commitment Management.

Composure

Composure is the somatic aspect of coaching. Our coaching will enhance your ability to stay calm and open-minded under pressure, listen deeply, and make sound decisions.

Keeping your composure under pressure is a learnable skill. You'll learn practices that condition you to stay calm, cool, and clear-headed so you can perform at or near your best -- even when your nervous system is triggered. You'll project the confidence people want to see in their leader, and shift from being reactive, "fire-fighting" and feeling overwhelmed to being Composed under pressure, open-minded and strategic.

Coaching

Coaching is a way of being and skillset that enables you to partner with someone in a thought-provoking and creative process that empowers them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

While as a leader there are times you need to simply tell people what to do, your effectiveness as a leader depends on your ability to free your team to create solutions that generate breakthrough levels of long-term success on their own. That happens through coaching, not commanding and controlling.

Successful leaders have a coach, want to become more effective coaches themselves and are seeking to develop other leaders as coaches.

If you suffer from resistance from your team, mediocre results, costly execution gaps, turn-over, low morale or other alarming outcomes, developing your coaching skills will allow you to transform your team and breed success. No matter your leadership rank, cascading the coaching practice through the ranks below will realize the large-scale change you're seeking.

In this program you'll learn the fundamental elements of coaching (which the International Coach Federation calls "Core Competencies") and have the supervised coaching experiences you need to become a powerful coach.

Commitment Management

Commitment Management is a systematic, step-by-step approach to eliciting and managing meaningful commitments for the sake of something you and your team care about.

Participants consider Commitment Management the “special sauce” of our program. It solves the mystery of the execution gap between the results a person, team or organization is capable of producing and the results they actually produce.

The norm in organizations is that leaders seek to lead and manage people. You become dramatically more effective and less stressed when you create a culture where the commitment is to managing meaningful, clear commitments, not people!

Getting on the road to commitment management is much like traveling to a foreign country – it’s exciting and perhaps a bit daunting at the same time, as it requires a whole new language and rigorous practices.

Our coaching on your commitment management skills will enhance your ability to systematically hold yourself and others accountable and lay the foundation for creating a culture of excellence and accountability.

While accountability is traditionally seen as punitive action (which has proven to not be effective), Commitment Management provides the conversational framework to create true accountability in a respectful, dignified and civil manner. It is a non-negotiable practice to restore and sustain civility in the workplace.

Change Leadership

Change Leadership is the culmination of the first three essential elements - Composure, Coaching, and Commitment Management - in the journey to transform organizational culture.

This holistic method engenders a culture of excellence, accountability, and civility, steering the organization toward transformative change.

By embracing Change Leadership, leaders become catalysts for cultural evolution, equipping themselves and their teams with the tools to achieve breakthrough success and sustainable growth.

Contact Hours

Participants will have an opportunity to receive 30 hours of continuing education credits, of which all 30 hours are core. Twenty to twenty-five hours will be in-person during one week, with the remaining 5-10 hours to be completed on the phone.

Post-live event group coaching (5hrs core/synchronous)

Coaching Philosophy

We see each client as creative, resourceful and whole -- not as someone who has a "problem" or needs "fixing." Our focus is on empowering clients to become more astute observers of their situation and their responses, which frees them to more effectively produce, navigate and lead change. They see their world differently, more clearly, and thus take different actions and produce different results.

More specifically, we believe that the results created in organizations are directly related to the conversations people are having, not having, or not having well. A leader’s responsibility therefore is to engage people in conversations in such a way that they produce desired outcomes.

Each client's desired outcomes are determined by defining and clarifying the gaps between where the client is now and where they'd like to be. We bring to light what that gap is costing them now and what value closing it will create. Leading edge technology, including proprietary assessments and culture surveys, as well as the client's own metrics, are leveraged to define and track success.

We partner with our clients to help them align data processes with their strategic objectives.

Once desired outcomes are clear, we help our clients identify their role in breakdowns and commit to a new way of communicating that enhances process and accountability while simultaneously building relationships and trust. We believe that almost everything we want is available through conversations: We just need to identify what we want, with whom to have what conversation, and then have it effectively.

Dates and Locations

The live-event and afternoon coaching sessions take place on client locations. The course is conducted in person on five consecutive mornings. This design allows participants to train in the morning and use their new skills on their job each afternoon. The remainder of the course hours are conducted via live webinar, one-on-one calls, or recorded media. Two 2-hr video follow-up calls provide monthly group coaching support.
